The Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary is located at the foothills of the Himalayas in the Sonitpur district. Covering an approximate area of about 200 sq.km, the sanctuary offers splendid views as well as abundant wildlife.
Tourists can spot Tigers, Lesser Cats, Elephant, Gaur, Barking Deer and Hog Deer in the Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary. Apart from the wildlife, the place is also home to rich flora. Several species of plants can be found in the sanctuary. Several hill birds can also be spotted in the wildlife sanctuary.
The nearest towns to the Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary is Tezpur located about 52 kilometres and Dhekiajuli located 30 kilometres. Though the Tezpur airport is the nearest airhead to the wildlife sanctuary, it is advisable to reach Guwahati on flight and then take the road to Tezpur. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from the month of November to April.
